The 25th Winter Cup took place at South Garda Karting last weekend, with some of the biggest names in the world of karting taking to the track. Former world and European champions were scattered amongst the entry list. Qualifying started well for the Energy squad, with Kirill Smal and Robert De Haan topping two of the session’s, with Tony Kart’s Joe Turney topping the third session. The WSK Super Masters series kicked off just 1 week after the Champions Cup in Adria. The Italian circuit again played host to some of the best drivers in the world. Again, the new breed of OK drivers were fast from the get go, with Nikita Bedrin topping the time sheets in qualifying ahead of Enzo Trulli and Andrea Antonelli. The first major race of the season in OK, the WSK Champion’s Cup saw some new names moving up the ranks from Juniors to give the established drivers something to worry about. In qualifying, it was one of those new names at the top, in Andrea Antonelli who put his KR Motorsport machine on the top spot. The first major international competition saw 50 juniors head to Adria for the WSK Champions Cup. The single round event would see the first champion WSK champions of the season crowned. With quite a few of the top drivers last year moving up the ranks, some new names would reach the front. The first of those was KartRepublic’s Brandon Badoer who set the pace in qualifying practice. 28 drivers contested the top class of the WSK Euro Series, with the world’s top drivers competing under the lights of the Adria circuit. It was shaping up to be a 3 way battle between championship leader Lorenzo Travisanutto, 2nd place Dino Beganovic and the dominant Dexter Patterson, who had a perfect run last time out at South Garda. The early signs showed that it wouldn’t be a repeat performance for Patterson, as he could only manage 3rd fastest in qualifying, only 0.104s behind pole sitter Gabriele Mini’. The final round of the WSK Euro series saw the series make the trip to Adria to do battle. 56 drivers from over 20 countries were there to do battle, with the championship still up for grabs. Andrea Antonelli was in the driving seat holding a 22 point advantage over Thomas Ten Brinke in 2nd with a further 12 points back to Nikita Bedrin.
