The first of the 3 classes to head into battle was the Mini X30 class, with a total of 40 drivers taking to the track. The first order of business was qualifying, with drivers split into 2 groups with the opening session topped by Fusion Motorsport’s Fionn McLaughlin lapping the French circuit in 55.139 seconds. The Junior X30 field saw quite a few drivers out of position after the heats were run. But one man in the position he wanted was Freddie Spindlow. The KR Sport man had a solid run through the heats and would lead the field away in the pre final. Things wouldn’t end the way he wanted though. The heat stages of the Iame Mini X30 Winter Cup had seen Fusion Motorsport’s Leo Robinson lead the way from Jan Peral and Denis Curavale. The Pre-final would see 4th place starter Sandro Perez make it to the front, and build a convincing gap over Robinson in 2nd by the time the chequed flag fell. Jan Peral chased his teammate and countryman home, but was handed a front fairing penalty, dropping him to 3rd. Eighty Three. Thats how many seniors are present in Valencia for the Iame X30 Winter Cup. And what an amazing field it is, including defending champion Mark Kimber. The defending champion’s defence didn’t get off to the best start, finishing qualifying in 16th overall, a session which was topped by KR-Sport’s Oliver Bearman. The Iame international calendar kicked off with the winter cup in Valencia this weekend. With over 180 driver present across the three classes (Mini, Junior & Senior), great racing was assured.
