Bart Harrison to contest FIA Academy Trophy

Every year, the FIA runs it’s karting academy trophy alongside the KZ and KZ2 events in Europe. Open to drivers aged 12-14, the grid consists of drivers nominated by their countries governing body to represent the country. A total of 40 young drivers will contest the championship.

Motorsport UK’s representative for 2021 will be Bart Harrison. Harrison had a stellar year, blasting onto the scene with victory at the Iame Winter cup to kick his season off. He then went on to finish 4th in the Euro series despite missing the final round. He also had a solid run at home, taking 3rd in the British Championship with 3 podiums.

Harrison was part of a 4 driver short list that included Ethan Jeff-Hall, Vinnie Phillips and Gabriel Stilp after a record number of applicants. The drivers were treated to physical fitness and performance assessments, conducted virtually of course. They then had an interview with the judging panel to complete the day.

Speaking about their chosen driver, Motorsport UK’s competitors Pathway Manager, Katie Baldwin said: “Bart really stood out across the board and showed great determination, confidence and composure.

Harrison joins the likes of Theo Micouris, Maxwell Dodds and Josh Rattican who have driven in the series during the last 3 years. Micouris ended the season in 2nd, just behind the USA’s Connor Zilisch who dominated the championship. Harrison will be hoping that he can emulate or beat that result.

The series consists of 3 races, shadowing the KZ and KZ2 paddock throughout Europe, with the season finishing at the World Championships. It kicks off at Adria in May before heading to Wackersdorf for round 2. The finale will be at Kristianstad in Sweden as a support race to the World Championship.
