The Cadet Kart Championship roars into life at Whilton Mill this weekend for the opening round of their 2021 championship. Despite all the challenges faced in their maiden year, they are back, bigger and better than ever. For 2021, there are new classes, new drivers and (of course) new challenges. Lets take a look at some of the reasons to be excited for their 2021 season.

All New Classes

For 2021, there are a few changes to the structure of the championship. Their cadet category will still use the venerable Honda GX200 engine from RPM, but this year there will be 2 weight categories, 105kg and 112kg. The plan here is to cater for those older and taller drivers who are on the cusp of moving up to Juniors, but aren’t able to move up just yet.

Alongside the revamped cadet classes, there are now 3 junior classes. The series will add Mini Max and Junior Max for the first time, but will also see the first national series for the Junior Prokart class. The new JKC provides a perfect stepping stone for drivers who want to move from cadets to juniors, without breaking the bank. The Junior Prokart class uses the same GX200 as the cadets, but with 2 of them on each kart.

Bumper Grids

Karting is always more fun when there’s loads of drivers, and that’s the case with the CKC. The 105kg cadet class currently has 36 drivers entered for the opening round, accompanied by a further 6 112kg entries. Then in juniors, 17 Junior max drivers will be joined by 7 Junior Pro karts and 6 Mini max drivers. For the second year running, the CKC will share the track with the National Kart Cup (NKC), who are bringing full grids of TKM, Senior Rotax and Rotax 177. If your looking for some great racing, then this is the place to be.

New Circuits

Despite the difficult circumstances 2020 brought, the CKC managed to fit 5 rounds in during the year. It did mean they had to cancel some races, meaning Lydd and Teesside would have to wait to make their debuts on the calendar. This year features 4 new circuits, with Lydd gaining a spot on the schedule. The series will also go to Hooton Park, GYG and Clay Pigeon for the first time, while returning to Whilton Mill, Fulbeck and Llandow over this year’s 7 rounds.

Top Prizes!

The good news for the drivers, is each class has it’s own prizes on offer for 2021. The headline for the CKC and the Junior Pro Karts is a free RPM GX200 engine for the championship in each class. In Junior Rotax, the champion will get a 50% Voucher for a brand new 2021 spec X-Kart, one of the UK’s newest and most exciting brands. The X-Kart will be on display during the CKC and JKC, with numerous drivers in each class racing with the new brand.

All the good stuff is back as well

Alongside the new stuff, there’s a lot sticking around from 2020, to make the championship as cost effective as possible. This includes limiting tyre sets, with CKC drivers limited to 2 sets of slicks and wets for the season while the juniors have 3 sets of slicks and wets for the season as well. The entry fees have also been capped at £145 per round for the season for both days. Meaning the main costs of the series (entry and tyres) comes to just over £1600 for the season in cadets, and just under £1900 in Juniors. Provided you use all your tyres.

There’s also top class media coverage, with some real talent involved in the series. We will also be there to cover the full season. To follow along with the event, check out the live stream over on the CKC Facebook page, you can also follow along on the live timing.
