Top British drivers head across the pond for Supernats

The Skusa Supernationals has fast become one of the biggest karting events in the world. This year it is expected to attract over 500 drivers over a large range of classes.

One of the classes in particular, Mini Swift, will feature some of the best talent from the British Karting Championship. Heading the British contingent is Iame Cadet Vice champion William Macintyre. He will be joined by Fusion Motorsport team mates Vinnie Phillips and Freddie Slater. They will all be driving for Team Benik. They will be joined by Brandon Carr, who finished 8th in the standings driving for ORM.

Another big name is British Grand Prix winner Coskun Irfan. Irfan has had a decent season, sitting out the British Championship after a strong run last year, which saw him finish 7th. Irfan has been racing in Italy, finishing 2nd in the Italian ROK cup. He also claimed a solid 12th in the International Final as well. Add that to 4th in the ROK cup challenge, Irfan seems to be in good form.

Brandon Carr heads into the Supernationals at a distinct advantage compared to his countrymen. Carr competed in the ‘ROK the Rio’ event, which is being held in the exact same location as this year’s Supernationals. While the circuit used for the Supernats is completely different compared to the Vortex run ROK event, he has still spent some time on a temporary track. This is something his other competitors will have to do without. He aslo competed with the Benik team, so the team will have an idea of what to expect from him.

Despite this, it would be rude to rule out Freddie Slater. This will be Slater’s 3rd Supernats, where he has previously been on the podium in Mico Swift. Last year, he competed in the Mini Swift category, finishing 10th as the youngest driver in the field. With another year of experience and some solid results on the run up to the event, Slater has been tipped as a favourite for the event.

These are just 5 drivers out of the 51 strong field, which include some of the US’s top drivers. Even so, there is a good chance there could be a British winner come Super Sunday.
