Denner and Sodikart dominate KZ2 Supercup

122 drivers descended on Lonato for the KZ2 Supercup, a support race to the KZ World Championship. All the top drivers were present on the grid, including most of the factory teams.

Despite the huge amount of drivers there was one name that rose to the top. That being Sodikart’s Emilien Denner. The Frenchman topped the time sheets in qualifying, lapping the Italian circuit in 46.185 seconds. 2nd was FormulaK’s Giacomo Pollini less than half a tenth behind. Emil Skaras powered his Energy kart to 3rd ahead of Senna Van Walstijn put Kart Republic into the top 4. David Vidales Ajenjo was 5th for Tonykart with Michele Fontana making it 6 manufactures in the top 6 for CKR.

Each driver then took part in 6 heats, with Denner again coming out on top. Denner managed to take 6 wins from 6 heats! Skaras ran within the top 2 in all weekend, taking 3 heat wins in the process, and would start the final from 2nd. David Vidales also won 3 heats, but 3rd in heat 2 meant he would start 3rd. Pollini took 2 heat wins while remaining on the podium. Fontana won a single heat, and would start 5th. Further down the field, Paavo Tonteri was on a charge. Having qualified 28th he ran within the top 6 all weekend and would start the final from 12th.

It wasn’t easy for Denner in the final, he was chased the entire way. The early challenge was from Emil Skaras, but the Swede lost out to Marco Tormen. It was then the turn of Vidales to take over the challenge on Denner. Despite the pressure from behind, Denner held on to take victory by just 0.765 seconds over Vidales. Skaras managed to get back up to 3rd with Pollini a distant 4th. Rounding out the top 5 was Senna Van Walstijn.

This is Denner’s first Super Cup victory. He came 2nd last season, as well as finishing 3rd in the European championship in 2018.
