Another new class for the CKC this season is Mini Max, the half way house between cadets and the full Juniors. Around Whilton Mill, the location of the opening round, the Mini Max class are around a second per lap off the Juniors. Despite the pace difference, the younger drivers would be mixing it with the Juniors.

The opening heat win would go the way of Liam Hartley, coming home 13th overall. He managed to get a kart between himself and 2nd placed Corey Fowler, who was just over a second a drift of the leader. Behind, there was a true battle brewing over 3rd in class, with Ollie Naylor and Finley Parker crossing the line nose to tail.

Heat 2 saw a few spots of rain fall, but not enough to make a difference to the circuit. Once again, Hartley would take the heat win, with just over 1.4 seconds in hand over Fowler, but this time they were 9th and 10th overall. 3rd in class and 14th overall was Lizzy Mentier, who showed the battling Parker and Naylor how it was done, getting passed them in the opening laps.

Heading into the final, things would take a turn, with Liam Hartley not taking the start. That left Corey Fowler and Lizzy Mentier to take the early lead, running just outside the top 10 in 13th and 14th overall. Behind, Parker and Naylor were engaged in a battle over 3rd, which was starting to catch up to the leaders.

Naylor and Parker were swapping places at the half way stage, while a small mistake coming out of Chapmans from Mentier gave Fowler some breathing room at the front of the field. Try as she might, she couldn’t get back on terms with Fowler, who took the win by 5.4 seconds over Mentier. Naylor would cross the line 4th behind Parker, but Parker was disqualified for a technical infringement, promoting him to 3rd.

Totalling the points, Fowler holds the championship lead with 72 points, 10 points clear of Lizzy Mentier with parker a further 2 points back on 60. Naylor is a further point behind on 59, with Hartley 22 points behind the leader, despite missing the final.

The Mini Max field is back in action at Lydd in June. To join the grid or find out more, head to the Cadet Kart Championship website, or head to their Facebook page to keep up with the latest action.
