World Champs heads to Portugal, Brazil moved to 2021

Yesterday, the CIK announced that the 2020 World Championships for the OK and OKJ classes will no longer be held in Brazil.

The event was set to make it’s debut in South America this year in CIK president Felipe Massa’s home country. Thanks to the events of the last couple of months, that’s no longer possible. There was quite a lot of critisim from teams due to the increased costs of the event, should it of gone ahead. The initial announcement, didn’t state where the event would now be held. However, an update today has confirmed we will be heading to Portimao, Portugal.

No more Brazilian race, we are heading to Portugal instead

The last time the World championships were held in Portugal was 2005, when Oliver Oakes took the top honours in Formula A around the Braga circuit. The event will now run between the 5th and 8th of November. The 1531 meter circuit will play host to it’s first international event since 2016, when it hosted a round of the European championship for the, then brand new, OK and OKJ classes.

What do you think about the decision to head to Portugal. Do you think that we should be heading somewhere else? Let us know in the comments.
