Karting For Good: Ben’s Bins

The sport of karting can be an extremely competitive world, but there are those in the paddocks around the country who are using this sport for good. By either making it more accessible or using it as a platform for their message.

One such individual is Benjamin Clark. Ben, a racer himself is the brother of Archie Clark who competes in the British Kart Championships. Ben has became a frequent visitor to his local children’s cancer ward and is now seeking to give something back and is using karting as a way of doing so. Almost every weekend he is out collecting used microfiber cloths, used by many teams to clean their equipment which are usually just thrown away. Ben, with his bright yellow bins, collects these cloths and washes them, before re-selling them to teams at events. A pretty good business model if you ask me.

Ben isn’t doing this for his own gain, he uses the money to buy toys for his local hospitals, so children have something to play with when they have to visit. He has previously donated £1000 of toys to a children’s cancer ward, £800 to the rainbow’s hospice and 3 games consoles with over 40 games to a children’s home as well. He has currently raised over £7000 alone for causes like this.

Thanks to his generosity, it has encouraged the generosity of others. Recently, Pirelli provided a wheel and tyre to be auctioned off, which fetched £1000 for the cause and Ben currently has a pair of his hats signed by Jenson Button which are also going up for auction. Ben has also had some of his own medicine, when Leicester football club suprised him at his school with the opportunity to be the match mascot for their opening home game this season.

If you want to support Ben and his cause, then check out his facebook page, Instagram, his Amazon wish list where you can buy toys directly for him or the Crowdfunding page which is currently running. If you see him in the paddock, pick up a pack of microfibers for as little as £3 and know you are helping children in hospital.
