Bradley Barrett to contest DEKM

Now in its second series the Deutsche Elektro-Kart Meistershcaft is showcasing the latest electronic kart technology. Supported by Rotax and Porsche, the championship is expanding to race outside of its native Germany for the first time. As a result, it has started to attract more international drivers, including Britian’s Bradley Barrett.

Barrett is no stranger to the Rotax brand, having finished as Vice Junior champion in 2017 and seeded 5th in the 2018 championship, his first in Seniors. Bradley also had a strong showing in the British Championship this year, sitting 2nd in the championship.

While this may seem like an odd move for Bradley, it is actually quite smart. The championship visits some fantastic circuits, including Kerpen, Genk and Ampfang with the season finale at the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals in Sarno in October. The championship also comes with heavy backing from the likes of Rotax and Porsche. Its also helps that there is a sizeable prize pot on offer. A prize pot of 38,500 euros is to be split between the top finishers in the championship, with 10,000 euros for the champion. There is then 5,000 euros for the best rookie and 2,500 euros for the best social media campaigns. That means that a driver could walk away with a total of 17,500 euros, possibly the biggest prizes in world karting!

Bradley currently forms part of an 11 driver entry list, with drivers from 7 countires represented. The first round of the championship takes place at Wackersdorf in May, and if Bradley’s speed in conventional karts is anything to go by, the rest of the field need not turn up.
