WSK: Patterson beats Travisanutto to OK win

The OK class had was one of the smallest grids at 66 of the weekend, but it had some real star quality.

But it was a different name at the top of the time sheets, in Ward Racing’s Dino Beganovic who set the pace in qualifying. Second was Gabriele Mini’ and Dexter Patterson 3rd. CRG’s Gabriel Bortoleto with Noah Milell rounding out the top 5. Down the order was Dilano Van T Hoff in 12th and Aleksey Sizov, who had a strong showing at Round 1 down in 39th.

Mini’ converted his front row starts into a perfect run in the heats with 4 wins from 4 races. Beganovic came close to replicating the Parolin driver, but 5th in heat 2 didn’t help his case. Patterson held 3rd with a string of top 4 results, a feat matched by Bortoleto in 4th. Lorenzo Travisanutto moved up to 5th with a similar run, without a heat win. Van T Hoff’s weekend wasn’t showing signs of improving, as a DNF in heat 2 meant he dropped to 17th. Harry Thompson’s weekend seemed to be going the opposite direction. Having qualified 28th, he stayed in the top 8 for all of his heats, leaving him 12th.

Pre-final A was a win for Travisanutto, with Patterson down in 5th and Mini down in 12th. Van T Hoff scraped through to the final in 17th, but Sizov failed to start which saw him out of the weekend. Pre-final B was a win for Beganovic with Taylor Barnard chasing him home, Luigi Coluccio was 3rd with Hugo Sasse in 4th. The big looser here was Joe Turney, who was put out after an accident, as well as Bortoleto who was out by lap 4.  The final would see Travisanutto and Beganovic on row 1, Noah Milell anad Barnard on row 2, Patterson and Thompson on row 5 while Mini’ was all the way back on row 12.

Travisanutto held the lead into the first few laps, being chased by Milell for the early parts, Beganovic lost out at the start, dropping back as far as 9th after the first lap. Soon it would be Milell who took the lead from the HTP driver a the pair were chased by Ton Kart’s Sami Meguetounif in 3rd. Patterson wasted no time getting himself into contention, making him passed the Tonykart driver, before setting his sites on the current World Champion. By lap 11 it was Patterson versus Milell, a battle which lasted just 3 laps before the Scotsman came to the front. Travisanutto then passed Milell and tried to set his sites on Patterson. But the Italian couldn’t catch Patterson who held on to the lead at the flag. Meanwhile Beganovic was on a fight back, eventually getting to 3rd at the flag.

That now means that Travisanutto holds the lead in the championship on 151 points. Patterson now moves to 2nd on 128 with Beganovic up to 3rd on 94. Barnard is 4th on 78 with Kas Haverkort rounding out the top 5 on 70.

The WSK Super Masters series is back in action at La Conca on March 10th.
